Southeastern Louisiana University’s Turtle Cove Environmental Research Station Boat shed and Classroom in Galva is the support facility for the main research facility operation at the Schlieder Lodge four miles down Pass Manchac. The Galva Canal facility is shared with the Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries Manchac WMA Headquarters and is frequently used by the Friends of the Manchac Greenway for monthly meetings. The parking lot, canal dock and boat shed contain the Turtle Cove fleet and the office/classroom dispenses knowledge to thousands.

It is indeed fortunate to have an institution dedicated to studying the unique oligolhaline fresh water system in the Upper Pontchartrain Basin between the two lakes. Their research provides valuable knowledge and their educational efforts garner important public support.
