Shrimp:

As it is recognized that the interior part of the estuary is an important nursery and should be reserved for the young, developing shrimp, commercial shrimp fishing must take place outside of Lake Maurepas, past the bridges crossing Pass Manchac, in Lake Pontchartrain and beyond.

Blue Crabs:

Callinectes sapidus (Latin for “beautiful savory swimmer”) are everyone’s favorite food, from Black drum grubbing along the lake bottom to crab-fishermen running their line of traps to kids angling for them with a piece of chicken on a string. When riding the lake’s currents on their annual migration to the salty coast to mate, they are lucky to run past this gauntlet.
