This parking area just off of the highway south of the Joyce Wildlife Management Area Swamp Walk Boardwalk goes to the entrance to Kliebert’s Ditch. There is a yellow locked gate, a paved drive over the railroad crossing and a gravel landing so air boats and mud boats can launch then head down the ditch into the swamp. The ditch goes most of the way toward the Tangipahoa River, some seven miles, and joins a network of old logging railroad scars. When the water is high in these swamps, like after a hurricane or a spring flood from the overflow from the lower Tangipahoa River, a small boat might be able to go far by following the parts of these trails that are cleared.
